Salmon Run

Today Chris and I went to Goldstream Park. I forgot that it was salmon spawning time. As soon as I opened the car door, my nose reminded me-let's just say that you should be glad that you weren't there too. It's probably the busiest time of year in the park-lots of families come out (and lots of people are out with their cameras too).

So here are my salmon pictures from today. I can guarantee that over the next week you will be seeing some of the other pictures of non-salmon things later in the week.

These are the salmon working hard on swimming upstream to spawn.

You can see those fins working hard to get the salmon to their spawning grounds.
These salmon are having an easier time of it.
Some seagulls getting fat on salmon that just didn't make it upstream.

I love this one of the seagull diving for something he saw under the water.
Feasting!
A seagull deciding which salmon he wants for lunch.

WARNING: The next three photos do show dead and decaying salmon up close. While I think that photographically they are very interesting, they may upset (or just gross out) some people. I wanted to give you fair warning so that you can choose whether or not to look at them.

Great shots. I love shots of water. You got some great captures of the fish and the seagulls. And I had no problems with the dead and decaying fish. But then I've been out to the salmon run myself.

Of course, now I have that damned Lion King song "the Circle of Life" going through my head! LOL
